Margaree
The Margarees are located on Cape Breton Island, on the Cabot Trail. The small communities dot the valleys formed by the Margaree River as it winds from the Highlands and Lake Ainslie to the sandy shores of the Gulf of St.Lawrence. The culture is a blend of Scots, Irish, French-Acadian and English. The old ways and old songs have been preserved in a lifestyle which still includes ceilidhs and quilting, weaving and rughooking.
The joy of a summer in the Margarees can last the year. The memories of fall fishing for salmon or trout in our Heritage River and the celebration of the Celtic Colours festival will warm the soul on a cold winter day.
